Executive Function Development

Putting Your Child Back In Control

Putting Your Child Back In Control

Executive functioning refers to the cognitive skills needed to have effective agency over one's learning when approaching and completing daily tasks.

In simpler terms, they are the skills that help you get things done.

We use a variety of strategies to support your child in this capacity, including positive reinforcement, using visuals, and establishing routines. Keeping an organized work or play space is paramount to keeping an organized mind and remaining goal-oriented through work and play.

For elementary-age children, these strategies might also include keeping a planner, organizing papers in folders, color coding, using tabs, and labeling. We will also support your child in establishing a line of communication with their teachers to follow up about missing assignments, request extensions on work, and any other topics related to their schooling.

Through these methods, your child will have control over their schooling and daily experiences while developing stronger working memory and time management skills. Creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving are also among the skills your child will develop through this meaningful work. Your child will enhance their attention and focus, patience, sharing, multitasking, turn-taking, adaptive thinking, and flexibility.
